Andrew Kent was educated at Glasgow High School, Glasgow, Scotland, and started at the University of Glasgow in 1915. He left the University in 1916 in order to take up military service in the 1914-1918 World War but returned to complete his studies in 1918, graduating MA, BSc in 1923. He was then recruited as an assistant in Chemistry by Professor T Patterson, from whom he took over as lecturer on the History of Chemistry in 1942.
